What it Means to be Green

About six weeks ago I signed up to be part of Blog Action Day and today is the day. The goal is to get bloggers around the world to write posts about helping our environment.Blog action day

So what does it mean to me to be green?

Planting native plants that are used to our dry environment here in Denver so that they don’t require so much water
Living closer to work so that I don’t have to drive so far to get to the office
Only washing dishes when the dishwasher is full
Running the washing machine when I have enough dirty clothes to fill the tub
Keeping my thermostat turned down a few degrees in the winter and a few degrees higher in the summer
Thinking through my route every time I drive to limit the time and distance
Living in a home with a smaller lot that requires less water to maintain
Picking up trash when I find it

Those are just a few simple things I do to contribute. Whether you believe that global warming is real or not, it can’t hurt to make some adjustments in our lifestyles that will contribute to a cleaner environment or conserve water. Just a few minor changes can make a big difference. What does being green mean to you?

Eating an elephant….one bite at a time. If everyone does his or her share, it can make a major difference. Good post Jennifer!

Thanks Joanne. A good example is the way people conserved water a few years ago. They went above and beyond the call of duty. The same applies here. If everyone does just a little, I think we’ll all be surprised at how much of a difference it truly makes.

Every little bit helps. I am replacing my light bulbs. I have been making my trips out in the car when absolutely needed. Multi-tasking comes to mind!! Great post.

Bob, Thanks. I think I’ll add that to my list as well. Replacing lightbulbs with those that are more energy efficient is also easy. Thanks for stopping by!
